Melanie Feld, oboe
Melanie Feld has been a member of the Stamford Symphony for 26 years and the oboist for Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera orchestra for 13 years. She has two other principal jobs: with the Opera Orchestra of New York (perfoming at Carnegie Hall) and the Westchester Philharmonic. She also plays in the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and is the Brooklyn Philharmonic’s English horn player. Working with so many orchestras, she has played all types of music and appeared in some unusual places. A few years ago, she appeared with the Brooklyn Philharmonic as they played the “William Tell Overture” on the David Letterman Show. She has appeared on a wide variety of recordings, especially recordings by the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Melanie can be heard playing an English horn solo for Renee Fleming, on a Christmas recording with the New York Concert Singers, and on a Stephen Sondheim CD. Whenever she is not performing or making reeds, she tries to spend time at the gym. She and her husband David have four cats and two kids. Her son Josh is a junior at Haverford College and her daughter Lizzie is fourteen years old and plays violin.
