Kathleen Nester

Kathleen Nester has been a member of the Stamford Symphony Orchestra since 1995. Flutist Kathleen Nester is also a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, where she holds the chair of second flute and solo piccolo. Ms. Nester has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke's, Orpheus, New York City Opera, and Philharmonia Virtuosi. She has participated in the OK Mozart and Opera New Jersey Music Festivals, as well as the Bravo Vail Music Festival with the New York Philharmonic. She has appeared as concerto soloist on flute, piccolo and alto recorder with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the Stamford Symphony, New York Symphonic Ensemble, Centre Symphony, and Solisti New York. Ms. Nester can be heard on many movie soundtracks, including “Julie and Julia,” and “The Rookie,” and on recordings with Joshua Bell, Kathleen Battle, and James McCartney. She also performs in Broadway show productions, and was solo flutist for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Woman in White,” and the revival of “Man of La Mancha” with Brian Stokes Mitchell. A member of Musicians’ Accord ensemble, she recorded the chamber music of Henry Cowell, Elizabeth Lang Zaimont and Joel Feigen and commissioned works by composers Joshua Rosenblum and Laura Kaminsky. Ms. Nester studied in France on a full scholarship with Marcel Moyse. She is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music where she was a student of Ransom Wilson and was presented in her Weill Recital Hall debut as a winner of the Artists’ International Young Artists competition. She maintains a private teaching studio in New York City, and is a member of the faculty at New York University. A native of North Haven, Connecticut, Ms. Nester attended the Educational Center for the Arts and the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven.
