Lisa Tipton, violin
Lisa Tipton, violinist and founder of the award winning Meridian String Quartet, has toured internationally and held residencies at Queens College, Bard College, Turtle Bay Music School and the Yale at Norfolk Summer Music Festival. She has won distinctions from the Evian International Competition, Artists International and Chamber Music America and has performed chamber music with Paul Neubauer, Seymour Lipkin, Daniel Phillips, Charles Wadsworth and William Sharp. She has performed as soloist with the Bronx Symphony, NY and Barbad Chamber Orchestras, at the Bach Aria Festival, and has toured extensively with the Manhattan Piano Trio. As a devoted interpreter of new music she has established the “Made in America” series at Weill Recital Hall and has performed on the “Interpretations” series at Merkin Concert Hall. Her critically acclaimed recording of the Ives Sonatas with pianist Adrienne Kim, “Hammers and Strings,” was released on Capstone Records in 2006. She performs regularly with the American Symphony Orchestra, Amici New York, and has played in numerous Broadway Shows including Phantom of the Opera, Spamalot, The Little Mermaid, The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, A Christmas Carol and Finian’s Rainbow. Currently she is the Director of the NY Youth Symphony Chamber Music Program, on the faculty of School for Strings, and is recorded on LRC, Midder Music, Arizona and Capstone Records. Lisa Tipton earned her MA from Queens College, The Aaron Copland School of Music, and has studied with Roman Totenberg, Ani Kavafian, Sonya Monosoff, Joyce Robbins, Gerald Beal, Joey Corpus and the Juilliard String Quartet. She received her BA from Cornell University where she was a College Scholar, won a Mellon Foundation Grant for Environmental Science research and was co-Chairperson of Wilderness Reflections, an outdoor adventure organization. While at Cornell she studied violin with Sonya Monosoff and piano with Malcolm Bilson. She currently resides in Sunnyside Gardens, NY.
