Marc Goldberg, Principal Bassoon

Biography:

Marc Goldberg (bassoon) is currently a member of the Stamford Symphony Orchestra, the NY Woodwind Quintet and principal bassoonist of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra. Previously with the NY Philharmonic (associate principal bassoon, 2000-2002) and the NYC Opera (acting principal bassoon, 2004-2005), he has also appeared across four continents with the Metropolitan Opera, the BSO, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, and Orpheus.

The newest member of the renowned NY Woodwind Quintet and the principal bassoonist of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, Mr. Goldberg has previously held positions as associate principal bassoon with the NY Philharmonic (2000-2002) and acting principal bassoon with the NY City Opera (2004-2005). He has been a frequent guest of the Metropolitan Opera, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Orpheus, and the Eos Chamber Orchestra, touring with these ensembles across four continents and joining them on numerous recordings. Known internationally, Mr. Goldberg has also been invited to make guest principal bassoon appearances in Tokyo with Seiji Ozawa's Tokyo Opera Nomuri Festival Orchestra, and in Korea with Myung Whun Chung and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Solo appearances include performances with the Brandenburg Ensemble at Boston's Symphony Hall and NY's Avery Fisher, and performances throughout the US, in South America, and across the Pacific Rim with the American Symphony Orchestra, Jupiter Symphony, NY Chamber Soloists, Sea Cliff Chamber Players, NY Symphonic Ensemble, and the NY Scandia Symphony. He has been a guest of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Da Camera Society of Houston, the St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble, Musicians from Marlboro, the Brentano Quartet, Carnegie Hall's Zankel Band, the Boston Chamber Music Society, and the Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival. For many years a member of the Chelsea Chamber Ensemble, the American Composers Orchestra, and the Ensemble Sospeso, Mr. Goldberg has been a champion of new music, premiering more than 100 orchestral, chamber, and operatic works over the last 20 years. Mr. Goldberg has appeared at the summer festivals of Spoleto, Ravinia, Chattauqua, Tanglewood, Caramoor, and Marlboro, and has been associated with the Bard Music Festival since its inception, both as chamber musician and principal bassoonist of the American Symphony Orchestra at Bard.

Mr. Goldberg has also been active in the commercial music field, appearing with such diverse artists as James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and Joe Jackson, and has recorded cast albums for three Broadway shows and soundtracks for more than two dozen films.

He holds BM and MM degrees from The Juilliard School, where he was a student of Harold Goltzer. Mr. Goldberg is on the faculty of The Juilliard School, Mannes College, The Hartt School, Columbia University, SUNY Purchase, and the Bard College Conservatory of Music.
