Fairfield County Community Foundation's Grant is Music to Symphony's Ears

Supporting the belief that classical music is a key component in the vitality of our community, the Fairfield County Community Foundation recently awarded a $20,000 operating grant to the Stamford Symphony in support of its mission to provide concerts and community education programs for its 2011-2012 season.

Barbara Soroca, CEO of the Stamford Symphony, applauds the Fairfield County Community Foundation for their insight and understanding of the needs of the area's not-for-profit organizations. "By offering general operating grants, the Fairfield County Community Foundation is filling a niche that is seldom understood by other funders. While there is nothing 'sexy' about funding the day-to-day expenses that keep an organization alive, the Fairfield County Community Foundation realizes the truth about operating a not-for-profit organization and therefore understands its needs." Soroca continues, "We at the Stamford Symphony are extremely grateful for this support."

Incorporated in 1965, the Stamford Symphony has built a reputation for providing audiences with diverse artistic and educational programs with a sole mission in mind -- to build a lifelong appreciation and enjoyment of classical music among all populations of Fairfield County. It fulfills this mission through passionate, professional performances of the highest caliber, diverse and innovative programming, and inspiring educational initiatives.

Under the direction of the innovative Maestro Eckart Preu, the Stamford Symphony reaches over 18,000 people annually through multiple concerts and educational programs, including the Harman Orchestra Classics at The Palace Theatre in Stamford, Exploring the Orchestra family concerts at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, and Mozart & Friends recitals at the Steinway Piano Gallery of Westport. In addition, the Stamford Symphony reaches over 8,000 students annually through its Advance the Arts program, the Composer Project program, and The American Experience - Concert for Students. Additionally, the Symphony distributes complimentary concert tickets to non-profit organizations, community groups and schools in support of its goal of bringing classical music to all of Fairfield County.
