Colleague and friend, pianist Conrad Tao congratulates Michael Stern on his newly appointed position as Music Director with the Stamford Symphony. He celebrates this moment with an improvisation on piano that starts with multiple disc shaped magnets that get dropped into the Piano. The improvisation eventually finds its way to John Adam's China Gates.
